Jawa Motorcycles India Launch Confirmed For This Year; Excited?

Jawa Motorcycles will be manufactured at Mahindra’s Pithampur plant

Jawa Motorcycles will be manufactured at Mahindra’s Pithampur plant in Madhya Pradesh and the production has reportedly begun

Jawa Motorcycles the iconic Czech brand, which was so popular in India during their first stint between 1960 to 1990 are finally coming back. Mahindra is the new owner of Jawa Motorcycles and the company announced already that they will bring the iconic brand to India and the launch will take place in 2018 as they have to sort out production and sales network.

Anand Mahindra confirmed on twitter that Jawa Motorcycles will be launched in 2018 but he didn’t specify date or month. Jawa Motorcycles will be manufactured at Pithampur plant in Madhya Pradesh and it will be sold in separate dealerships as the company want to capitalize on retro image. There won’t be any Mahindra badge on the bike as it won’t work with the overall theme.

The sales network of Jawa Motorcycles will be handled by Classic Legends Private Limited and it is a subsidiary of Mahindra & Mahindra to manufacture and sell its bikes in both India and International markets. The Indian manufacturer is going to pitch Jawa Motorcycles as a competitor for Royal Enfield, during their first stint the Czech brand had given tough competition for RE.

Mahindra is yet to confirm about models coming to India, but we can expect retro theme models to be launched initially to grab the heart of Jawa fans. Some reports indicate that the company is developing a new model for India based on Mojo platform. Jawa already has lots of models in International lineup and we won’t get two stroke models as it is banned in India.

Jawa 350 is one of the models the company revealed last year and it could be a good model to start its India innings as the model has retro styling with modern mechanicals. The company offer two variants – 350cc 2 stroke unit and 400cc 4 stroke unit. We are getting 400cc 4 stroke unit producing 26 hp of power and 32 Nm of torque.

The company has given 4 speed gearbox, which is not common these days. The top speed of Jawa 350 is 120 kph and it comes with 17 litres of fuel tank, 19 inch wheels at front and 17 inch at rear. Jawa has given lots of chrome finish across the body to continue retro theme and we can expect aggressive pricing from Jawa to take on Royal Enfield.
