Jawa Motorcycles, which is one of the country’s most loved brands, made an official comeback after 22 years with the Jawa 300cc motorcycles launched in India, on Thursday.

The first model of the company is named Jawa and it pays a tribute to the first ever Jawa motorcycle, which went with the same name. It is a 300 cc retro-styled cruiser and is priced at Rs 1.64 lakh, while the second model- Jawa 42- is priced at Rs 1.55 lakh. The company also showcased the Jawa Parek, a factory-custom bobber model, which is priced at Rs 1.89 lakh. (All prices are ex-showroom, Delhi)


The modern Jawa features a better build, more power and lower centre of gravity as compared to the older generation Jawa. It retains the signature retro elements like the chain guard and while the round headlamp, fenders and bulbous fuel tank look in sync with the current period.


Revived by Classic Legends Pvt. Ltd., which is a subsidiary of the Mahindra Group and owns 60% stake in the venture, the bike is powered by a 293cc single- cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that will produce 27 bhp and 28 Nm of peak torque. The motor is mated to a six-speed gearbox. And is a BSVI complaint engine.


Weighing a total of 170 kgs, the Jawa 300 sports a front 280mm disc brake and a 153 mm drum brake at the rear and hence the bike only offers single-channel ABS as part of the braking setup. The Jawa Perak uses the same engine as the Jawa and the Jawa 42, but has a bigger bore, displacing 332 cc and it makes 30 bhp and 31 Nm of peak torque.


Jawa will be be offered in three colours – Black, Grey and Maroon while the Jawa 42 will be offered in six colours, namely Halley’ Teal, Galactic Green, Starlight Blue Lumos Lime, Nebula Blue and Comet Red.


Jawa motorcycles will be opening 105 new independent dealerships pan India and the deliveries will begin in early 2019. Bookings for the Jawa and the Jawa 42 are open at Jawa’s website.


The Jawa is all set to give Royal Enfield’s 350 cc range bikes a competition in the market.
