Jawa Is Going After Royal Enfield By Launching 3 New Models

The Czechs are officially back in business! 

Back in the day, Jawa used to give Royal Enfield a run for its money since the mid 1950s, until the brand was discontinued some 20 years ago. Thanks to the Mahindra Group, the Czech company is open for business once more and to show it really does mean business, it launched not one, but three models to get things started. Watch your crown, Royal.

In an event organized by Jawa and broadcasted live on YouTube, the revived brand showed the world its three RE competitors—the Jawa, Jawa Forty Two, and the Perak. Operating under Mahindra’s Classic Legends Private Ltd. division, the company introduced appropriately vintage models. 

We recently had had a peek at the new Jawa when a leaked picture surface, revealing the classic silhouette ahead of its launch Today, we got to have our first official look at the production versions. The entry-level Jawa is a classic, 70-inspired design, clad in a red-and-chrome scheme. The Jawa Forty Two ups the ante a little with a sportier seating position and a slightly lower handlebar.

Both models will hit the market first, powered by a 293cc single cylinder engine producing 27 horsepower, teamed with a 6-gear transmission. This will position the Jawa and Jawa Forty Two in direct competition with Royal Enfield’s Classic 350 and Bullet 350.  

The Perak is a bobber-style model that will become the first of its type to become mass produced in India. The custom-like Perak will receive the same engine as the Jawas, but with a slightly bigger displacement with 334cc and therefore, a slightly higher output at 30 hp. 

The Jawa and Jawa Forty Two are already available for pre-orders and pricing on their local market will start at around USD$2,150 for the standard Jawa and USD$2,280 for the Jawa Forty Two. The Perak is expected to be the costliest of the bunch at USD$2,625. The models are not expected to cross the ocean at this time.
