Jawa and Jawa Forty Two launched at Rs 1.64 lakh and Rs 1.55 lakh respectively

Classic Legends Private Limited (CLPL) has brought back the iconic Jawas.

Classic Legends Private Limited (CLPL) has brought back the iconic Jawas to life after a hiatus of 42 years. Christened ‘Jawa’ and Jawa Forty Two, the duo is priced at Rs 1.64 lakh and Rs 1.55 lakh, respectively. The Jawa resembles the original Jawa to the T, including the maroon and golden paint job while on the other hand, the Forty Two is a special edition that celebrates the launch of Jawa in the country after a gap of 42 years.

However, the Jawas may look like their predecessors, they are completely different on the inside. Powering them is a modern 293cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC motor derived from the Mahindra (CLPL’s parent group) Mojo, mounted on a double cradle frame. Jawa claims that it has been tuned for maximum twist with the peak torque being developed In the low and mid-range. Power and torque figures stand at 27bhp and 28Nm. You also get the six-speed transmission from the Mojo. And of course, the iconic twin exhausts that hark back upon the golden era of 1970s. And finally there’s the under-tank mounted handlebar lock a la the original Jawa.

Both the Jawas get single channel ABS and a drum brake at the rear. Braking duties ate the front are handled by a single disc with Brembo calliper. 18inch rims at both ends are wrapped around with MRF Nylogrip rubber having a 90-section width at front and 120-section at the rear.

The Forty Two comes with blackened single pod cluster, forks, crankcase and mirrors, a flatter and wider handlebar to cater to the younger rider, aspiring to be a part of the Jawa clan. The Jawa on the other hand comes with tonnes of chrome and fenders with golden plating to appeal to the classic Jawa buyers.

As aforementioned, the Jawas follow the design cues of Czech brand’s most famous models, the Type 353 two-stroke single cylinder 250cc and the Type 15 four-stroke twin-cylinder 500cc motorcycles. Boman Irani, the scion of erstwhile Irani family that managed the Ideal Jawa India Pvt Ltd is a shareholder in Classic Legends.
