Indore: Jawa’s jalwa is back

SJAWA is a name, which symbolised pride for veteran bike riders and was a name often heard by younger generations when elders told stories of their college days. JAWA motorcycles invoke pleasant memories for many bike riders. The city will again have a taste of retro trend as JAWA will be launched in city on Monday.

JAWA Moto is a motorcycle and moped manufacturer founded in Prague, Czechoslovakia, in 1929 by František Jane?ek who bought the motorcycle division of Wanderer. The name JAWA was established by joining first letters of Jane?ek and Wanderer. In 1950s, JAWA motorcycles were exported to over 120 countries.

Another famous model in 1970s was 350 Californian. It appeared in black and red colour from Californian beaches to New Zealand.[4] After 1990, company suffered losses. A successor company was formed in 1997, which continued name – JAWA Moto.Free Press talked to veteran riders to revive their old biking memories and also to new generation riders to know their curiosity for exploring retro style. Excerpts

“JAWA isn’t a bike, it’s a legacy. The old classic has always been youth’s favourite, whether it is 1970 or 2019. The new bike brings back the old classic with modern structure and technology. The bike has a different feel, from the engine sound to riding posture, everything just feels amazing.”

Vijay Pratap Singh, businessman

“After a long wait, JAWA is back with a bang. It offers the best horse power and mileage in this segment. The BS-6 engine technology is a very advanced feature, also the bike offers perfect seating and pick up.”

Anjali Joshi, Bikerni Group Rider

“I still remember listening to my father’s tales of his retro classic bike. I hope the new models live up to expectations, so that I too can plan on making my own biking stories.”

Naman Dongle, businessman

“Since youth, I have been a fan of these mean beasts. I will wait for reports of new models and may soon plan on purchasing one. I hope the new models match the old style but have improved riding and safety features.”

Sunil Silawat, businessman

“Retro bike riding culture is rising in India. The retro classic look along with modern safety and performance features will attract younger generations. The best part is that company is retaining similar vintage JAWA appearance. Riding them will be like a trip back to memory lane.”
