The new 'Jawa' model is priced at Rs 1.64 lakh while the Jawa 42 (Forty Two) comes at Rs 1.55 lakh; making it the cheapest among the three. The Jawa Perak (the Factory Custom) will be priced at Rs 1.89 lakh when it is launched eventually. All prices are ex-showroom (Delhi).

Let us take a brief look at the new ‘Jawa' — the most classy-looking motorcycle of the lot — before we get to ride it properly, in the near future.

But, you should definitely check out the cheapest Jawa model too, since its looks are quite good.

The new ‘Jawa' comes with a proper classic styling with lots of chrome and elegance. The majority of the tank has got chrome highlights; in which the "Jawa" badging is put. The engine is also finished in a mix of silver, black and chrome.

At the side, the wide seat and the swept-back rear adds a certain character to the motorcycle. The gas-charged rear suspension has also got chrome highlights while the long silencers laid in typical Jawa fashion.

At the rear, there is a narrow tail lamp and at the very bottom is the number plate. The grabrail is body-coloured and has a basic design. Further drama is added by the twin-Jawa exhausts.

The overall design of the new Jawa motorcycle certainly brings a nostalgia element. For instance, take a look at the horn placed below the headlamp in a retro fashion. It comes with a neat "Jawa" badging too.

The new Jawa motorcycles are powered by a 293cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine which makes 27bhp and 28Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to a six-speed transmission.

The engine is based on the same unit which powers the Mahindra Mojo, but with a different design and stroke. The engineers have tuned the engine to make it sound somewhat similar to the original Jawa motorcycle from the 20th century.

Being a classic motorcycle, the engine is built to showcase a good mid-range and relatively-flat torque curve. This results in a relaxed yet adequately-backed-up riding experience.

The new Jawa motorcycles have a 14-litre fuel tank. We expect the mileage figures of the new ‘Jawa' to be around 30 – 35km/l; quite decent figures for its output.

Jawa Motorcycles has followed a minimal approach for their new models. For the same reason, the new ‘Jawa' does not boast a lot in the features department, but still has a unique retro-inspired styling as its key highlight.

On the safety front, the new Jawa gets a 280mm front disc and a 153mm drum brake at the rear. The brakes are further assisted by a single-channel ABS. The tyres sizes stand at 90/90 R18 and 120/80 R17, at the front and back, respectively.

Another interesting highlight is the single-pod instrument cluster, which reads out the speedometer and fuel level from an unusual (but vintage) needle position. There is a small digital display at the top to show the time.

The new ‘Jawa' model is available in three old-school colours: Jawa Maroon, Jawa Grey and Jawa Black.

Competition The new models from Jawa Motorcycles will directly rival the 350cc models from Royal Enfield. To improve the market presence, Royal Enfield has also launched the new 650cc Continental GT and Interceptor, just a day back. UM Motorcycles will also showcase some competition; although not majorly.

Booking Details & Delivery You can book the Jawa motorcycle of your choice on the Jawa Motorcycles official website for a booking amount of Rs 5000. There will be 105 exclusive Jawa dealerships in the country very soon and deliveries will start in early-2019.

Verdict Jawa Motorcycles has surely made a statement in the classic motorcycle segment in India. The new ‘Jawa', Forty Two and Perak will witness a good market response in the coming months, and the brand has already started receiving a lot of bookings since its launch. Hopefully, we will get the new Jawa motorcycles to test ride soon and once that happens, we will be sharing a detailed report.

In the meantime, what do you think of the new Jawa motorcycles?
