3 New Jawa Motorcycles Launched In India

Mahindra’s subsidiary, Classic Legends has finally introduced the iconic Jawa motorcycle brand in India. The company has launched 3 new motorcycles – Classic, Bobber and Scrambler at an event in Mumbai. The new motorcycles are – Jawa, Jawa 42 and Jawa Perak – priced at Rs 1.62 lakh, Rs 1.55 lakh and Rs 1.89 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) respectively. All three motorcycles are powered by all-new 293cc single-cylinder engine. The design of the new Jawa bikes share strong resemblance with the yesteryear Jawa motorcycles.

While the Jawa and Jawa 42 will first go on sale, the Perak factory built custom will come at a later stage. The bike is wrapped in Jawa’s original maroon shade. Though, design of the tail-light and the positioning of the ignition switch have been changed. Overall the bike’s profile is similar to the original old-school Jawas that will appeal buyers looking for a retro-styled motorcycle.

The motorcycle shares design cues from the older Jawa’s, specifically from Jawa 250 Type A. Some of the design highlights include retro-styled round headlights, dual-tone chrome finish on the cylindrical fuel tank, flat seat, twin exhaust system and the flared mudguards with pinstrips.

The new Jawa bikes are powered by an all-new 293cc, single-cylinder, liquid cooled DOHC engine, which is developed from scratch in Italy and India. This engine is capable of producing 27bhp of power and 28Nm of torque. It is claimed to offer a generous mid-range and a flat torque curve. For transmission duties, the bike features a 6-speed gearbox.

The company claims that the new Jawa engine has been designed to deliver the exhaust note similar to the original Jawa motorcycles. While the original thump is missing, it still sounds quite bassy and throaty. The new powertrain will meet the upcoming BSVI emission norms. It’s a completely new unit, but shares a bore and stroke with the Mahindra Mojo’s 300cc engine.

The new Jawa is more powerful than its arch rival – the Royal Enfield Classic 350 – that produces 19.8bhp of power and 28Nm of torque.  That means, the new Jawa bike delivers around 7.2bhp extra power than the RE Classic 350. For suspension duties, the Jawa bikes get telescopic front forks and twin shock absorbers at the back with a gas-charged canister at the bottom.

For braking duties, the bike gets front disc brake and rear drum brake. Additionally, the motorcycles gets single-channel ABS as standard. The new Jawa 300 Classic will directly rival the segment-leader – Royal Enfield Classic 350.
